Victim demands N20m at Rivers panel

A 75-year old man, Paul Amadi, yesterday, asked the Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry to prevail on the Nigeria Police to pay him N20m for the trauma operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) caused him.

Amadi said he was forced to relocate to his maternal home after experiencing hardship for over one month after SARS operatives who were hired to kill him started threatening his life.

He stated that the trauma he experienced untold hardship, while on exile at his maternal home, a situation he said kept him on a hospital bed for several months.

Another victim, a woman started crying when the panel dismissed her petition against the Nigeria Police.

The panel had struck out Isoboye Owunari Douglas’ petition in which she sought redress for the torture and harassment of members of the family by operatives of the Nigeria Police.

But Chairman of the Commission, Justice Chukwunenye Uriri (rtd.) dismissed the petition, saying the panel could not hear the matter since a Court of competent jurisdiction had earlier ruled on the case.
