Obiano, Ubah, others preach peace, unity

GOVERNOR Willie Obiano of Anambra State has called on Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of sacrifice as a tool for nation building, enduring peace and unity.

Also, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, the national vice chairman of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), praised Nigerians for their very peaceful disposition during the Presidential and National Assembly polls.

In his special Message for Easter — “The Supremacy of Sacrifice to Human Advancement and Nation Building” — governor Obiano observed that “Nigeria is on the cusp of change and the situation requires greater introspection and better appreciation of the place of sacrifice in the handling of the delicate issues of nationhood.”

According to him, “At no time is humanity more vividly reminded of the significance of sacrifice to human progress and nation-building as the period of Easter. Indeed, every Easter, the entire Christendom is forced to recall that our salvation is a product of priceless sacrifice, that there can be no progress without sacrifice,” he observed.

He recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan demonstrated a deep understanding of the imperatives of sacrifice to nation building when he accepted the collective wish of Nigerians for change and congratulated the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, on his victory in the March 28 election.

“In doing this, President Jonathan has shown that if we are to build a country of our dreams, Nigerian leaders must lead from the front…we must imbibe the virtue of setting a personal example,” Governor Obiano further observed.

Consequently, the governor maintained that as Nigerians re-unite with their loved ones and friends this Easter, “I urge you to devote a little time to reflect on the larger questions of nationhood and the little personal sacrifices that we must all make to create a better society for ourselves and our children yet unborn.”

On the coming House of Assembly election in Anambra State, Governor Obiano called on Ndi Anambra to vote for all the candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to ensure that the momentum of purposeful leadership in the state is sustained.

“We need a peaceful legislative assembly and a cordial relationship between the three arms of government to continue our push to expand the frontiers of excellence in Anambra State. We can only achieve this by voting for all the 30 candidates seeking election into the Anambra State House of Assembly on the platform of APGA. I urge you to vote for them,” Governor Obiano said, and further assured the people that all arrangements had been made to ensure that their votes would count this time.

Ubah urged Ndi Anambra to demonstrate virtue in the April 11, 2015 governorship and state assembly polls, as shown by President Jonathan.

He said he was happy that the can-do-spirit of Nigerians has always come to play whenever the enemies of the nation expect the worst.

In the same vein, a finance and management expert, Chief Morris Ebo, called on Nigerians to continue with the sacrificial peace of Easter even as the nation transits into a new administration driven by a new party- the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He noted that the President-elect came on board at a time the citizens were desperate for change. He therefore saw it as a will of God propelled by the votes of the people.
