.Urges no violence, sit-at-home in S’East

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed optimism that the embattled leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is likely to be freed from captivity this year.

According to Kanu, if the people of South East and the youths put their house in order, and stop unleashing violence, it would be achieved.

Fielding questions in an interactive programme in the 94.9 FM, Flow Station, monitored by The Guardian, Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, said he, along with other South East leaders, are holding appreciable talks and working hard to ensure the eventual release of the IPOB leader.

The lawmaker said various groups were on it to find a political solution to the problem, informing that the support of the media would be needed to create awareness on the development.

He advised that it is wrong to accuse Tinubu as the cause of the continued detention of the separatist group leader, since he was not the one who was in power when Kanu was detained. He, therefore, cautioned against violence, since the fire force of the Federal Government is superior.

He also advised that those enforcing sit-at-home in the region should desist from it.

He said: “Let us be determined that we cure and heal and start building the South East starting from this year.

“Let us not postpone it. With God, all things are possible, and what God cannot do, does not exist. I know we can get our brother released this year if we keep our house in order.
“My message to Abians and Nigerians is that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration is that we are not at war. We are at work.
“Let me re-echo this; there is no sense in showing how much you display violence. It is shown in how much you come to the table to discuss and find peace. After all, every war ends on the table. It is stronger than weapons. Let us drop the weapons and come to the table, using our policies where it will be heard and find a solution to our problem.”
