Ighodalo still in Edo governorship race, clarifies TAMO

Asue Ighodalo is the PDP's governorship candidate for Edo State.

Team Asue Media Organization (TAMO) has stated that Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Edo State election, remains qualified to run.

TAMO issued a statement on Friday to clarify that a recent court ruling did not annul the PDP governorship primaries held on 22 February 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The organization cited the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court judgement, emphasizing that Honourable Justice Inyang Ekwo, in suit no: FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024, did not disqualify Ighodalo or nullify the primary election results.

TAMO criticised the counsel to the plaintiffs for prematurely addressing the press and misleading the public by claiming the court had disqualified Ighodalo. “This act has been described by various legal practitioners as reckless and reprehensible professional conduct,” the statement read.

The organization called on all political parties to avoid spreading false information and instead focus on promoting their candidates and policies. TAMO specifically urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cease propagating lies against Ighodalo.

TAMO reiterated that opposition efforts to distract Ighodalo would not succeed. “Ighodalo remains unruffled by the propaganda and is focused on selling his message of ‘The Pathway to Prosperity for All’ to the people of Edo State,” the statement concluded.

The PDP had earlier stated that its candidate in the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election, Ighodalo, remains validly in the race.

The PDP, via a statement, also stated that the court did not make any order nullifying the primary election of Ighodalo as the party’s candidate for the Edo State Governorship election, as there are no grounds whatsoever for such.
