HITECH abandons work on Lagos Airport link-bridge

Federal Controller keeps mum
The contractor handling rehabilitation of airport link-bridge at Toyota, Lagos, Hitech, has abandoned the project as the road remained closed to motorists.

The road, which is less than 200 metres, was closed for rehabilitation in October 2022 and partially opened to motorists towards the 2022 Christmas and the New Year celebration. The contractor handling the job resumed after the festive period and promised to complete the project within two weeks.

Five days after resumption, the contractor left the site and barricaded the road.

In fact, none of its equipment is on site at the time of filing this report.

Calls made to the Southwest Federal Controller of Works, Ademola Kuti were not answered.

Till now, the Federal Ministry of Works is yet to explain to Nigerians what it is doing on the road, the duration of the job and other vital information.

Since the rehabilitation commenced, motorists plying the Apapa-Murtala Airport Road have to drive down to Anthony village or Gbagada then connect to Oshodi, a journey that takes about 15 minutes when traffic is mild.

Before abandoning the site for almost three weeks now, the contractor stays off the area on weekends. While the project was on, workers used to resume on the site around 10.a.m., and would often leave the site on or before 5.p.m.

When The Guardian reached out to HITECH through its official line +234016322555, a man who spoke refused to mention his name, but said he was not aware that HITECH was still working on the road. “Go to people around that place and ask for the project manager and find out what is delaying the work,” he said.
